A Short biography of the soul travelers
The Soul Travelers are an acoustic band based in Amsterdam that brings a combination of life-hop raps, folk, jazz and funky rhythms. Rapper Donnie Adams (from Chicago, US) met Dutch guitar player/producer Guido Schotten ten years ago while studying abroad in Amsterdam. Five years later Donnie moved to Amsterdam and, as G-DO & Xception, the duo would soon build up a reputation in the local hip-hop and jazz scene. The family unfolded like-minded musicians in Bernt Nellen (German percussionist) and Shishani Vranckx (Namibian/Belgian singer/songwriter) before they decided to venture together to Namibia, where Shishani is an endeared artist and activist. The organic sound of The Soul Travelers was born spontaneously on the beaches of the Namibian Atlantic, where the group simply had their favorite tools in tow; a guitar, pandeiro, and a song to share with the world. After returning to Amsterdam, the family continued to expand with Mark Nieuwenhuis on trumpet and, later, that bad man Koen van den Buuse stroking acoustic bass. The Soul Travelers continue to perform the ceremony around the country, from building in conjunction with organizations such as TEDxAmsterdam and Humanity in Action, to lifting with festivals such as Beyond, Magneet, Zeeland Jazz, Landjuweel, and Read My World Poetry at paradiso noord.
The debut album of The Soul Travelers, "How Does It Feel?" consists of channeled poetic raps with a universal message over funky and moving acoustic compositions. Inspirations range drastically from the soul of artists such as D’Angelo and Yasiin Bey (f.k.a. Mos Def) to the folk of Nick Drake and Fela Kuti’s Afrobeat. After playing more than 175 shows over the past four years, The debut album “How Does It Feel?” is now available on all digital outlets, including Spotify and iTunes, and for purchase on Bandcamp.
