The Soul Travelers on Koningsnacht 2018 at the Noordermarkt of Amsterdam performing "Waiting for a King"
“One of the best bands in town! Subtly blending different music genres, The Soul Travelers have the opportunity to unite generations, bringing together listeners of diverse ages and cultures, all in one place, in one unique performance, where the only thing the audience is asked to do is just ‘be’ and live in the moment.” – The Holland Times

A PERFORMANCE REVIEW FROM 3VOOR12 LEIDEN, NL 2018
- 3VOOR12

A Short biography of the soul travelers
The journey started in January 2009 when Donnie Adams (MC) from Chicago met Guido Schotten (guitarist/producer) while studying abroad in Amsterdam. The two instantly bonded through their love for Hip Hop and delving into the mysteries of life. Although Donnie left just a week later, they collaborated long distance, releasing several albums as G-DO & Xception. During that same time Guido met Shishani Vranckx, a Namibian/Belgian singer-songwriter and her good friend Bernt Nellen, a German percussionist. Shishani became a consistent jewel on G-DO & Xception songs, featuring on 8 of 9 projects for the duo.
In December 2012 Donnie moved to Amsterdam so G-DO & Xception could perform and it wasn’t long until the duo built a reputation in the local hip-hop scene. By the end of the next year Donnie, Guido, and Bernt decided to go visit Shishani, who was living and studying in Namibia. It was there the organic sound of The Soul Travelers was spontaneously born on the shores of the Atlantic, where the group simply had their favorite tools in tow; a guitar, pandeiro, and a song to share with the world. After returning to Amsterdam in January 2013 and performing their first ceremony the family continued to expand with Mark Nieuwenhuis on trumpet and, later, Koen van den Buuse on acoustic bass. More than 300 ceremonies later the vibration is stronger than ever.
The debut album of The Soul Travelers, "How Does It Feel?" consists of raps to rewrite the modern myth over moving and funky acoustic compositions. Inspirations range drastically from the soul of artists such as D’Angelo and Yasiin Bey (f.k.a. Mos Def) to the folk of Nick Drake and Fela Kuti’s Afrobeat. The album can be found on Bandcamp and all your favorite streaming platforms with limited vinyl shipping in December 2018.
